Joe Macklin

Grammy-nominated Music Producer

Regarded as one of the music industry’s most innovative music producers, Joseph “Jo Blaq” Macklin has quickly become a light of his own in the music industry.

Jo has accomplished a lot in his 10 year music career, having worked with many of the mainstream artists of our time. The highlight of his music career was in 2015, when he was nominated for a “Best Pop Vocal” Grammy for his vocal production work on Ariana Grande’s second album.  Jo was the Vocal Producer for the majority of Ariana Grande’s albums, and also produced Justin Bieber's "Change Me" and Jill Scott's "Fools Gold."  He has worked with many other artists, including Mario, Big Sean, B5, Chris Brown, 98 Degrees, Jazmine V, Next, Kendrick Lamar, B. Smyth, Evan Ross, Jordin Sparks, Shaunice, and music legends like Stevie Wonder and Anita Baker. Some of his more recent accomplishments include work for the  “June’s Diary” album for Kelly Rowland’s, founding member of Destiny’s Child, new girl group from the television show Chasing Destiny. Jo is also the Executive Producer for LeToya Luckett's new album and Disney actor and artist Olivia Stuck, star of Disney’s XD series Kirby Buckets, upcoming album.    Jo is a native son of "WyCo" (Wyandotte County, Kansas), and is the youngest of 3 “preacher's kids.” Although his musical interest and talents existed then, as a kid, Jo excelled on the basketball court, as well. Jo was ranked as one of the top basketball players in the state of Kansas, hailing from the dominant Washington High School. He went on to play Division 1 College Basketball at the University of Texas-San Antonio, and would later finish his collegiate career at Colorado State. He played professional basketball in Australia before returning home and later opening a successful mortgage company to assist people with responsibly realizing the American dream of owning a home. Jo welcomes the opportunity to bring music and light to his community, and has a passion for giving back to the Kansas City Metro area, his home base.  He has teamed up with Hot 103.3 Jamz to host talent showcases around the city to provide a platform for local artists of all genres to be discovered and receive constructive feedback to further their careers. He has a passion to help build a musical culture that provides a space for every man, woman, boy and girl to live their dreams.
